How easy is it to replace oil filter on Honda 750 Shadow Motorcycle?

The oil filters on Shadows are under the engine on the left rear side. They can be a little difficult to remove. You can do it with a strap wrench or big channel locks, or the Kruyakn filter remover.

Follow wolf_whitefeather's advice concerning the K%26amp;N , it has a 17mm bolt head on it that makes removal a snap, next time out.How easy is it to replace oil filter on Honda 750 Shadow Motorcycle?
real easy it's a spin on type

spend the eztra money and get a good K%26amp;N filter should be less than $15 and while your at it I always replace fuel and air filters at the same time.

How do you get the oil filter off a citroen zara 1.8 injection?

There seems to be no room to get to the filter unless you remove the fuel injection system. Is this right? How do you get the oil filter off a citroen zara 1.8 injection?
From underneath. They're built these days for the professional mechanic with a ramp etc.How do you get the oil filter off a citroen zara 1.8 injection?
Can't you get at it from the bottom up, between engine and firewall?
oil filter rench and turn anti clock wise normaly from to of engine if it has aircon you may have to bend the pipes slightly to get it out

Is it possible to change the oil on a car and not change the oil filter?

What are the potential problems that might happen if the oil filter wasn't changed but the oil was during an oil change? Is it possible to change the oil on a car and not change the oil filter?
Yes, but you car will not have sufficient protection as with a new filter. If you like spending money on new engines or new vehicles, then fine. A filter that is half way blocked with debris will not last long as the new oil will soon not be able to pass through the filter and the engine will soon wear out. A couple of thousand miles, maybe more, but to be honest, only a fool would attempt it.

Good Luck.

Dr AntonyIs it possible to change the oil on a car and not change the oil filter?
Yes it is possible. However the new oil's potential will not be out to use as the old filter clogs the system of the old dirt. If you can buy new oil, why not also put a little extra for the new filter. as to the dangers of it, I haven't encountered it yet as I simultaneously change the oil and the filter.
What's the point of changing your oil if you're going to do a half-fast job?

Oils collect contaminants over time including dirt, metal particles, and acids - all of which cause engine wear. Leaving the filter leaves a filter full of dirty oil and a filter full of stuff that you don't want leaching back into your fresh oil.

Filters also have a bypass valve that opens when the filter becomes clogged enough to restrict the flow. That effectively gives you no filtering whatsoever.

Filters are cheap. Engines ain't.

Don
Anything is possible!

Why don't you save by just driving your car 6,000mi. between oil changes, then you'll save on oil too!

Which is cheaper the oil or the oil filter?

The oil filter, so your going to be there so why not do them both?

The answer too your question is yes

the average oil filter was designed too last two oil change intervals.

with no problems (its just not recommended anymore)

Because of the stupid people-It's a long story-the old time techs' will know what I mean.
im not a mechanic but changing oil without changing ur oil filter should be ok but depending on wen is da last time u change da oil filter.....it only cost less den $10 and do it urself...it's easy actually i just did my oil change...i use Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil and Mobil 1 oil filter...my oppinion i say it's better off doin da complete oil change cuz after miles of running da filter gets clogged up and it wont perform da way it suppose to....full oil change recommend: fresh oil, and oil filter plus u can change da drain plug but i didnt if it dont need to, 3k-5k miles depending on ur driving condition... like i said im not a mechanic but i do about 90% of da work myself including full oil change......i say just change da oil filter it only takes a minute........
yes you dont have to change the oild filter every service its just recomended for best preventative maintenance.
Sure, but why would you? Cheap insurance.......

But knowing the job was done right....pricelessDo i have to drain the oil in my car before i change the oil filter?
You can change the filter without draining the oil first but why? If you intend to change the filter without changing the oil then this is possible but would only make sense if you had recently done an oil change and then the filter had been damaged. Note that if you change the filter only then you will still need to add new oil to replace that lost in the old filter.

If you are changing oil and filter then the optimum procedure is to drain the oil when the engine is warm, change the filter, remember to replace the oil drain plug and refill with fresh oil.

Changing the filter more frequently than the oil does not make sense. It makes more sense to change the oil twice per filter change.
you can change the filter without changing the oil and vice versa, however neither one is a good idea. changing the filter won't help your oil condition much as the dark in the oil is carbon that is already too small for your filter to process. the filter just gets out the big stuff.

on the other hand, changing the oil without the filter means there is no good cleaning element for your oil and there will be fouled oil still in the filter meaning you'll start out with dirty oil

as for oil in the face. on nearly every car the top of the filter is higher than the top of the oil reservoir, thus the amount of oil spill from the filter is not related to draining the oil from the car first.
you can do it either way. you can change the filter first or drain the oil first but either way both needs to be changed when you change the oil. all the oil will come out is what,s in the filter when you take it off and the most of the oil is in the oil pan so you can do it either way but change both the oil and filter of you will just be leaving a quart of dirty oil in the engine if you don,t change the filter too.
it all depends on which kind of oil filter you have or where it sits, take a volkswagen for example, the filter housing is located in front of the engine sitting upright, you can take the housing off and replace the filter with next to no spillages, other cars are different but you never stated what you drive
Yes you need to drain the oil, disconnect the oil filter change that then fill your car back up with the proper amount of oil (check the owner manual. Be sure to tighten the oil plug and filter.
You can but if your filter needs changed you oil is dirty and needs changed. The filter is above the oil in the pan so by taking the filter off all the oil won't come out.
You could do but it would be very advisable to change the oil at the same time , change the filter without the oil would be like changing your clothes when dirty but not showering
    change the filter after draining

You can change the oil filter first if you want...but it'll be messy lol. you should change the oil filter WITH changing the oil.
wel you dont have to drain oil but why replace filter and not the oil or other way oil an dnot filter as well like washing your feet and putting on dirty socks
Its best to drain the oil first before changing the filter. Easier and much cleaner that way.
No, it doesn't matter. Unless you decide to have the car running while changing the filter. LOL. These people are crazy.
no, but you can really avoid a mini exxon valdez if you do.
That's whats best to do. You could also Google or Ask Jeeves what to do.
The short answer is yes you can
You should drain the oil first unless you want a face full of oil.
    yes please.
depends how you spend your pennies, and what you do with your time.i have been know to change the filter by itself, but the oil there after.time can be of the essence..

When changing your oil, do you use an OEM oil filter or an aftermarket one?

Just wondering what everyones opinion is. Do you buy the OEM filter from the dealership or use an aftermarket such as Fram or a store brand. When changing your oil, do you use an OEM oil filter or an aftermarket one?
The only aftermarket filter I buy is made by WIX. Fram is absolute trash. If your engine is over 100K and you havent owned it from day one, buy a WIX. If you really care about the car, go factory. When changing your oil, do you use an OEM oil filter or an aftermarket one?
Buy a good one at NAPA.
Aftermarket is ok. Just change it with oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles.
    Fram.
I use aftermarket. Most aftermarket meet OEM standards. In fact, I believe Purolator makes the top ranked oil filters (which should be cheaper than what you pay for at the dealer)

Hey Dog the best filters to use on any car either foreign or domestic is FRAM,My 1979 chevrolet malibu classic with the 305 loves it to death and with FRAM you simply can't go wrong with those products.Try this website out and see for yourself,www.framautomotiveproducts.com.
Depends. If your car is a newer model and still under warranty, you may want to use the OEM. If it is paid off, or close to being so, use the after market brands sold at the auto parts store.

    Best,

an aftermarket filter works just as well, I like purolator myself.
Napa or Wix filters are better than OEM. Baldwin also offers a good filter. Don't use fram those things are junk.

THanksWhen I go to a corner garage for a synthetic oil change, what kind of oil filter do they normally use?
They will probably use a cheap one with regular cellulose(paper) media. This should be fine if you're changing it every six months or so. If it really concerns you, take your own filter.

As an Amsoil dealer I use and recommend the Amsoil EaO synthetic nanofiber oil filters and change the oil and filter once a year. If there's a car that Amsoil doesn't make a filter for, I usually use a Purolator Pure-One and change it every six months and the oil(Amsoil synthetic) once a year.

Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?

I went for an oil change about 10 days ago. My oil light came on and my car stalled. When I had it towed to the nearest auto station, they told me my car did not have a filiter. What went wrong? My engine was damaged and now it is sitting in the shop where I had the oil change done. They told me that their insurance company has to come and investigate. Are they at fault? How does a filter just ';fall off';? HOw can I get this resolved? Are they responsible for repairng/getting me a new engineIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?
There are only three reasons that an oil filter would fall off.

    A) Defective filter

    B) Wrong filter installed on the car

    C) Improper installation

Unless you provided your own oil filter, the shop is going to be liable not only for the repair of your vehicle, but also for your costs for replacement transportation while the car is being repaired. They should also pay for the towing bill, and the bill at the shop where the car was towed!!Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?
If all is true, document everything and never go to a ';quick lube'; service shop again! Apparently the mechanic that worked on your car is on drugs and needs treatment.
It is possible, but not for long. Obviously all the oil drains or is pumped out through where the oil filter attaches. I'd say the place that changed the oil filter is at fault, but proving that is an entirely different matter (especially ten days later).
well sounds pretty cut and dry that they messed up. Unfortunately don't expect to get out of this for nothing. All the insurance or the oil change shop is entitled to do is get a motor equivalent to what you had. So if you had 100 miles on it they will get an engine from a junk yard with 100k miles on it. If you want a brand new engine forget about it. You, unfortunately, may even have some out pocket expense. It is just the way it works with insurance companies. Just remember that mistakes happen and it is only a car. If they cooperate and give you a loaner until the car is fixed and do fix the car then that is all you can ask for really. It is unfortunate or you and the oil change shop. It will definitely hurt their reputation and also may hurt your wallet too.
ever who installed the filter may not have tightened it back up right ,that puts them responsible for the damage to it,if it needs another engine in it they will be responsible for seeing that it is fixed back right, good luck with it.
they installed the wrong filter .i just ran into a pathfinder with the same problem the used a filter for a diffent make engine .there is a slight possibility of a defective filter but unlikely.or just a shoddy job, hope this helps
it's 100% thier fault they did that

Check with Autozone, Advanced Auto, or O'Reillys online......they should have it listed. I checked all over the right side of the lower engine block where its located on my 95 car. So they either moved the filter between 95 %26amp; 01 or they dont have a filter on here. I think they must've moved it. Its a 2.2 liter OHV; the same thing they been using in cavaliers.Where is oil filter located on 2001 cavalier?
Yep, you can't see it if you don't know where to look. From the passenger side of the car leaning in from the fender, follow the v- belt to the back of the engine bay, you can just see the butt of the filter if you look straight down along the engine, from the bottom of the car reaching up (right hand) just above of the drive shaft of the right wheel and just behind the power steeing fluid lines. You'll need a filter cap type wrench to remove the oil filter and a very small socket wrench to turn it. It is a very small filter with very little room to get it off with out spilling its contents down on you. Wait till you have to change the radiator hoses!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck...Where is oil filter located on 2001 cavalier?
uh dude you drive a chick car!?!?!?!

no wonder you can't find the filter!!!!

do you know where to put the gas?
check between the top ridge of the oil pan and the exhaust manifold
This is a hard one to reach. If you feel the back of the moter at the mid center you will find it. Reach in from the passenger side. Good luck!
Look where the dipstisk goes into the engine, there is a black cap about 3'; around right behind it. The filter is under that cap. Use a 1 1/4'; socket and slightly loosen the cap. If you keep loosening it with the socket on, it (the socket) will end up hitting the bottom of the intake manifold. It's a Fram #9018 oil filter and is usually $7 dollars or so at the parts store. Make sure that you put a little oil on the green o-ring that's around that cap before you put it back in so it doesn't seize up on you.
if its got an ecotech, its to the right of the intake inside a canister,11/4'; socket will reveal it.if its got a 2.2L,its on the back of the engine about 4'; above oil pan

yes it is very common. Every one of those leak. I would not do it yourself though. The engine most likely may need to be moved out of the way (jacked to one side). About $200-$300 to have done at a garage.
i have replaced more then i can count. sometimes you have to pry the engine over but not too tough

Changing an oil filter on a generator?

You might try to use a strap type oil filter wrench. Small filters like on generators don't do well with channel-locks, or buy a socket made for that size filter. It will come off, even if you crush it.

Can I sue a Oil Change station if my oil filter falls off and my engine locks up?

My car is 7 months old. it has regular oil changes and I don't hot rod around. The dealer says the warranty won't cover this because it was not caused by a mechanical failure. Can I sue a Oil Change station if my oil filter falls off and my engine locks up?
you say your car is 7 months old and you use the phrase that it ';has regular oil changes'; Just how many have you had to have in 7 months? Any way I doubt the oil filter fell off like you say. For the filter to fall off it had to be the wrong one or not on tight. Either way it would have leaked before falling off. It should have been detected at the oil change if not you should have noticed oil in your driveway or garage. I have owned and operated 3 quick lubes for the past 19 years and while I cant say I havent had to pay for some mistakes over the years I can say that an oil filter falling off is not one of them. Nor have I heard of any other shops having this kind of claim. As far as suing, good luck. I know first hand how this stuff works. You are better off to have the place who you think messed up get a hold of their insurance provider and see if they will take responsibilty and pay for anything. But I can tell you you will not get a brand new wngine for nothing. You heard of prorating it is the same thing with your engine if they did indeed mess up they are only responsible for giving you an engine of the same caliber. So dont expect a brand new engine for free. I highly doubt that you will be able to win this case though. Sorry but I just have seen too many scams out there and find it very hard to believe your story. Can I sue a Oil Change station if my oil filter falls off and my engine locks up?
yes. document everything from the previous services to the recent disasterouse service and contact a lawyer to persure legal action.
Did you get it done at Wal-Mart? Because I work there and things like this nature happen once in a while and of course Wal-Mart pays for a new motor or whatever is messed up. We even bought a man a new cell phone because he said one of us stole it and there was never a cell phone in his car when we pulled it into the shop. But I do not advise the try to rip wal-mart off, cuz that sucks for the people that work there.
yes. call the oil change place. if they won't pay then call the bureau of automotive regulations and the better business bureau
you can sue the people who changed the oil and summons the dealer to testify about what caused the engine to quit.
yes, you can, and Jiffy lube has a long sad history of this. in the future, I recommend taking it to a good independant mechanic for oil changes. They are a little more expensive, but well worth it.
Why do you assume you will have to sue? If the oil filter fell off after an oil change, just find what the repair will cost and contact them and see if they are willing to work with you. Most of them have insurance policies in place to cover such things. When was the oil change, and when was the failure? That would make a difference, since if the filter 'fell off' a month later they wouldn't be responsible for that.
Try talking to the oil change station -- if it's their fault - they may settle with you; WITHOUT a lawsuit being filed.
all oil change places have to carry insurance just for these kinds of problems, they will have coverage for your breakdown.have the dealer contact them as the dealer will more than likely do the work so you retain your warranty.

You should always use the dealer till warranty is up for oil changes so they cant say you neglected you servicing

Would this oil filter for a ford F150 still be good?

well i have a brand new oil filter for my ford f-150, and i got really pissed off and punched the top of it, the black sure grip part that the special tool goes over, well i dented that in, but would it effect the filter or is it good to use? i don't care if its no good i will buy another one for 5 bucks, but i am curious.Would this oil filter for a ford F150 still be good?
NO holes ? You're good to go. What in the h@%% pissed you off enough to punch the filter? I have a '99 150 Lariat, and granted I've had my moments with it but never got that mad to ';punch the oil filter';.:-)Would this oil filter for a ford F150 still be good?
i think that it depends on how dented the casing is and whether or not you messed the threads up. if it is only a little dented then you should see if it will go on easy, do not force it. if it is a really big dent i would just get another filter and think about going to anger management classes.
I would personally use a new filter. Oil filters are designed to have oil flow through them in a certian way to filter the oil . A dent in it may have the possibility to alter this flow or cause a restriction in part of the filter.
Maybe good.Maybe not. You'll find out if you put it on and the car goes OK for 7000 miles and you worry about it all 7000 miles. Get a new filter you don't need to worry about.
As long as their is not a hole in it (like your head) it will be ok. It may just take a little less oil to hit the full mark.
lol taking out anger on betsy the car. anyway with any filter as long as there is no pierced holes the filter is fine
If the truck runs fine, why take a chance, get a new one.
be on a safe side, buy another one.

Do i need to change oil filter again?

My toyota yaris 03 plate has just been serviced, previously using oil 5w but garage used 15w, when i drove the car it wasnt smooth or picking up speed and was jumpy. Is this due to the oil being changed or asommething else?Do i need to change oil filter again?
Viscosity of the oil is very important for cars with hydraulic valve lifters. It will effect the engine performance. Use only the manufacturers recommended weight.Do i need to change oil filter again?
Oil change does not have anything to do with the performance of the car. W right next to the number ie:5W is the short for weight. It differs from temperature to temperature. If you are in cold areas you would want to use thin oil as 5W to easily start the motor or if you are in Florida like me you would want to use thicker oil as 20W to protect the motor from heat. Hope this information helps. Good luck.
    WRONG oil!

    Should be 5w30 or 5w40

    15w40 is for Diesels usually.

Quick-Lube (and dealer) Problems to Watch Out For

    1. SAE30 oil. Some quick-lube places have been known to offer advertised specials that use SAE 30 oil, as opposed to 5W30 or 10W30. Pay the extra for the proper oil, or better yet avoid merchants that try to pull this kind of thing because it's an indicator that they are less than honest.

    2. Trying to use the wrong oil because it's what they have in bulk. Insist on the oil that is specified on your filler cap and in your manual.

    3. Pumping the oil out through the dipstick hole instead of removing the drain plug. I came across this gem when I asked if I needed to bring my own copper drain plug gasket. They said that they didn't remove the drain plug to drain the old oil. This was the Oil Changer location at Kifer %26amp; Wolfe in Sunnyvale, California. Pumping the oil out through the dipstick hole is a terrible way to get the old oil out because it leaves a lot of junk in the bottom of the oil pan. This was a long time ago and maybe they've changed their ways since then.

    4. Selling unneeded and overpriced services such as engine flushes.

    5. Selling overpriced, and often low quality, parts such as wiper blades and washer fluid, PCV valves, thermostats, etc. Never let a quick-lube place do any mechanical work on your vehicle.. They do no use journeyman mechanics.

    6. Using poor quality filters. You really want to bring your own filter, from the dealer, with you when you go to a quick-lube place. They may take $1 or $2 off the price if you do this but don't count on it.

    7. If you have a vehicle that actually still has Zerk fittings to lubricate then be sure that they actually lubricate these fitting. Most cars no longer require lubrication but some trucks still do.

    8. Do not let a quick-lube place change or add any fluids other than oil. No transmission fluid, no brake fluid, no power steering fluid, no antifreeze, no oil additives, no fuel additives. It is just too easy for them to use the wrong fluid and cause permanent damage to your vehicle.

For some horror stories about Jiffy Lube see: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotiv鈥?/a> . I think I'll pass on them!

    5W30 versus 10W30

Virtually all new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. use either 5W30 or 10W30 oil. The difference between the two is that the 5W30 flows better when cold, so if you live in a cold climate or operate your vehicle in a cold climate during the winter months, you should use 5W30 if it is the preferred oil for your vehicle. If you live in a sub-tropical climate and don't operate your vehicle in cold climates, then 10W30 is acceptable as long as the manufacturer specifies that it is permissible to use it.

Is there a disadvantage to using an oil that flows better when cold, i.e. 5W30 versus 10W30?

Sometimes, but usually not. The crux of the issue is this: the bigger the difference between the cold oil viscosity and the hot oil viscosity, the more the volume of viscosity modifiers and the less the volume of base stock. If you are good about following the manufacturer's recommended oil change interval then stick with the 5W30 if that is the preferred oil for your vehicle, even if 10W30 is acceptable in warmer climates. Older cars may specify 10W30 only. This is because they need a little more viscosity when cold to keep a protective film on the cylinder walls. There have been instances where the larger amount of viscosity modifiers that are present in 5W30 have broken down due to excessive heat and have left carbon deposits on the valves, but this is extremely rare. The proper fix would be to reduce the excessive heat, but the workaround was to use an oil with less viscosity modifiers.

Why do many oil change places, even dealerships, use 10W30 instead of 5W30, even when 5W30 is preferred?

According to www.cartalk.com (see link in the references section), as well as many mechanics who have posted on usenet, 10W30 is the closest thing to a one size fits all oil. Many older vehicles need 10W30, and most newer vehicles are okay with it in warmer climates. Since many garages don't want to have multiple tanks of bulk oil they choose to carry only 10W30. The advice that Tom %26amp; Ray give is correct, 'it would not be a disaster if you used 10W30, but given a choice, go with the manufacturer's recommendation and use the 5W30.'

    Thicker is Better Myth

The reason that oil viscosities have gotten thinner is because bearing clearances have become smaller. Using thicker oils will interfere with oil flow and the oil pressure will increase. In a worn engine it may be okay to increase the viscosity of the oil because the bearing clearances have become larger.

There are several compression removers that attach to a standard 1/4'; ratchet drive. They will open and contract to get around the end on most smaller oil filters for autos and motorcycles. What would happen to the engine if you had a blocked oil filter?

what would happen to the engine if you had a blocked oil filter??What would happen to the engine if you had a blocked oil filter?
if your filter becomes blocked it has a bypass valve to direct your oil flow around it. If it is a petrol engine then hope you don't have any large particles in your oil or it could cause damage as it can't be filtered out any more. Some Diesels have another filter which will still filter about 1/3 of your oil (by-pass filter). What would happen to the engine if you had a blocked oil filter?
Bye bye engine. It would cause a loss of oil pressure and lubrication for the engine, which would result in engine seizure.
When the filter has reached capacity, it will engage the internal bypass valve. It simply means that your oil will no longer be filtered. When oil is no longer being filtered, the dirt/wear metals can eventually wear on your engine's bearings, pistons, cam lobes, etc.
    Hi there

If your filter is blocked it will starve your engine components of oil and cause serious damage.

It's only a few quid for a filter and not worth risking,

    Dave (gorleston u.k.)
built into just about every oil filter is a neat lil feature that bypasses the filter if its plugged. usually even cartridge type have this.you know that spring that goes in and holds it to that plate.anyway.it puts unfiltered oil into the system. sometimes i wonder about those darn things and how much they can filter in like high pressure, high volume systems.

i think allied or allied signet builds most of them, even for different companies. anyway i think its a canadian company. search for like unbiased comparison, i found 1 around 2000(yr) that explained most of this, and it gave relief pressures, relief gasket material etc.dont quote me on this, its been a few yrs.
Most if not all modern cars have a by-pass valve fitted to the oil filter, in the event of the filter blocking the buy pass valve will open and allow a reduced oil flow to the engine. This will still cause the oil light to come on when the engine idles and must only be used to get the car home or garage.

    Ja.
All cars have a bypass for the oil filter in case it gets plugged up....

Depending on how much it was plugged and for how long, would result in a range of nothing, to a failed bearing...
Most Modern Filters have as bypass installed to prevent such an occurrence. But now you've opened yourself into a whole new set of problems. Now you are allowing unfiltered oil to be used by your engine. This can be a real problem later with engine issues and even oil cooler and turbo problems. Not knowing what you really have well... this can be a real disaster in the making. Change your filter regularly according to your maintenance schedule, the price is worth avoiding the chaos later.
eventually it will ruin the engine because it could,nt filter the oil and dirt would get around the bearings.
The bypass isn't in the filter, but in the engine block. In a small/big block chevy, it is a little spring loaded plunger under where the filter screws on. Oil that is constantly being bypassed because of dirt, will let that dirt circulate through the engine and eventually ruin it.

Why is it critical for an engine's oil and oil filter to be serviced regularly?

The same reason you have a liver. Contamination, debris etc. Your filter removes these foreign objects from your oil. After awhile, the filter becomes clogged with these contaminates and must be changed. The oil itself begins to break down from the heat and wear and tear also so it needs to be changed. Cheap insurance for a long lasting car. I think everyone has their own schedule of maintenance. I do mine every 2000-2500 miles. Been working for our family so far, not one vehicles has crapped out before 350,000 miles. Why is it critical for an engine's oil and oil filter to be serviced regularly?
Simply because there are still some vehicle manufacturers out there that STILL CANNOT build a decent engine such as Ford/Lincoln and Mercury. Their engines are flimsy and notoriously unreliable. You should always change the oil and filter on these vehicles even if the engines built by these manufacturers don't usually last past the third or fourth (if your lucky) oil change. It is supposed to extend the lifespan of your engines if done every 3000 miles. But with Ford products being as desposible as they all actually are, it makes no difference at all. After 3 or 4 oil changes- POP goes your engine. Ford quality job 1........ Yeah right! Why is it critical for an engine's oil and oil filter to be serviced regularly?
Heat, contamination, wear metals, moisture. These all can affect your oil life. The oils viscosity can beak down and limit the protection it offers to prevent friction/wear.
because the oil is the only thing that keeps it from being metal to metal in all engines, when the oil gets dirty or doesn't flow good because it hasn't been changed in a while the engine will wear a lot more, and this causes a lot more friction, which is the worst enemy any engine can have, the better the oil and the more often you change it the longer any engine will last, even a lawn mower needs its oil changed once in a while, but on a car,its very important,it can be the difference in how long an engine will last, good luck.
Yes extremely critical. The reason why is that the oil creates a pressurized fluid barrier between the engines moving parts. The viscosity of the oil is the engines only protection. This fluid has to endure sub zero temps up to about 500F, and maintain it's viscus properties. It also has to withstand burning hot gasses, carbon, unburned hydrocarbons,(from combustion) and condensation, and dirt (that are drawn in by the crankcase breather). If you have coolant leaking into your oil or the oil all burns or leaks out, you will have total engine failure.

I would say it's worth it to change it every 3 months or 3k miles.
oil lubricates moving parts in your engine.. when it becomes dirty or thick, it does not lubricate as well.

most poeple recomend changing oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

In all actuality, oil, on the norm, last much longer than this.

    newer GM vehicle are equipped with an ';oil life system';

It is very complexed to explain (so i'm not going to try), but it is very accuarate at telling when oil needs to be changed, i have heard of people going 8 to 10k before needing oil changes with this system.

If you don't have the GMOLS, I would suggest sticking with the 3 month, 3,000 mile change.

EDIT: had to add to this after seeing some flamer go off on ford products...

    check out this website millionmilevan.com

a 5.4 modular v8 that has been running problem free for a million miles. with oil changes between 10 and 55 thousand miles apart.

I just saw a article a couple weeks ago about a chevy truck passing the same milestone... but that article also stated that he had gone through FIVE trannsmissions in that million miles.

Like the saying goes... 99% percent of chevy's ever sold are still on the road today......

Can't believe only 1% made it all the way home.
It is critical to have your oil changed regularly, to prevent friction.. which would wear your parts out faster, causing you to have to replace your parts more often. You see metal flakes in your oil when you change it, because the parts rub against each other. If you did not change your oil, those metal flakes build up, and wear on your parts. The filter needs to be changed regularly, because the flakes build up, and then once the filter reaches a certain point, then it cant clean any more, causin the flakes to go on into the engine.
oil lubes the internals of the motor. as the motor runs, ';things'; get in the oil that make it gritty(on a microscopic level). These ';things'; wear an engine out prematurely.

Tried to simplify it as much as possible
Oil is like your blood in you body if you didn't have a Liver you would Die. samething.
an engine works by using a piston that rubs up and down against a cylinder. friction creates a lot of heat. oil reduces this friction and heat. if you don't change your oil and filter regularly, then the pistons can heat up so hot that they could start to melt and weld against the engine's block. then you would have to buy a new engine!

the other reason is that oil works to keep the engine clean. changing the oil flushes out all of the dirt and sludge in an engine.

Get some spray type air filter cleaner, stuff a rag in the intake boot, then spray the filter cleaner all over the inside of the airbox. Wipe out with a clean shop rag.

Be sure and check the airbox drain for collected filter oil. Even if you've seen the air filter oil draining out through it you will still have residue that can cause problems later if you don't get it out now.

Does this sound like the voice of experience speaking? *lol*What is the best thing to use to clean filter oil out of the airbox?
parts cleaner will break down the oil with a rag. then use a dry rag to wipe the excess out. Or use a contact spray areasol with rags. just rags if you have nothing else, soapy water for final clean up.
well to answer ur ? i say use either. then to tell u whats wrong its either cause u overfilled it with oil or if theres metel shaveings in the air box its a warnty problem
Dish washing soap and water, rinse well and blow dry with a hair drier on a low setting.
I think the big question is why there is oil in you air box it sounds like you have a problem with a bad

PCV valve. But any way to answer your question best is to use brake or parts cleaner this will not cause any other damage to your engine plus excess will evaporate.

    PS

    replace the air filter
take towles and clean in out
Soak up as much as possible with paper towels. You can use gasoline, but don't use it around hot objects or open flames. Wet a rag or paper towels with gas and wipe it clean.

    Underneath the engine.

There is a square cover with a large bolt in the center of it (17mm wrench).

Sometimes the parts are installed incorrectly by people that think they know what they are doing.

Look at the parts diagram and install the parts in that order.

Don't forget the washer - it gets stuck to the filter and discarded by accident.

What side of engine is Oil Filter on Dodge Neon?

What side of the engine is the Oil Filter on 2005 Dodge Neon? What side of engine is Oil Filter on Dodge Neon?
Should be right next to the oil pan, in a very easy accessible place. It should be on the right side of the car. What side of engine is Oil Filter on Dodge Neon?
It is located a little off center, towards the passenger side of the engine block, rear of the oil pan, at the bottom. It is right next to the drain plug. If you had to change the oil yourself, you should jack up the passenger side of the car, right behind the front wheel. Better to do this on ramps, best with a lift. Hope this helps.
The easiest way to figure that out is to go to your local auto parts palce and look at the book. Every brand has differnt codes on their filters so their is no easy anwser to your question with out knowing a lot more information.
its should be close to the oil pan. some cars have them in really awkward places. i would refer to the owners manual.

Does anyone know where the oil filter in a 1997 Honda Civic is located?

It's probably on the bottom or side of the engine. It's round and about the size of a soda can. Buy a new one, and compare the new one with what you see in the engine. You'll probably need a filter wrench to take the old one off. Filter wrenches are only 2-4 bucks. Don't forget to coat the rubber gasket of the new filter with some clean engine oil before installing. Just put it in hand tight, don't use a wrench to tighten it.Does anyone know where the oil filter in a 1997 Honda Civic is located?

Crawl under and take a good look.

The engine is on the passenger side of the vehicle so the longer pan under the engine is the oil pan.

Remove that bolt to drain oil.

The oil filter is right in front of the engine and can easily be seen from underneath..moreso towards the passenger side front.Where do u find the oil filter and the oil pan bolt on a 1995 dodge caravan?
I will be honest,it would be better to take it to jiffy lube, or another service center, it will cost you more for the tools than the oil change will cost,

Autozone and Pep Boys take oil and filters for free but I am sure there are many other places that do it too. Look in the phone book and call them all.

Please don't dump it in the garbage. All of that stuff is toxic and very bad for the environment.
    AutoZone
any quick lube place will accept it,auto zone, advance auto.
Autozone should have a place to dump it in the back of the store. just go in and tell them you have oil to dump and the should show you where its at

Is it tooo late to change my oil filter?

I couldnt get my oil filter off, so I just went ahead and drained my oil and put new oil in without changing the filter, can I go in now and change the filter, or would I have to drain my oil again?

If I had to drain it out, can I just use that same oil since its new or would I have to buy new oil???Is it tooo late to change my oil filter?
You can go on and put the new filter in but you may need to add a little more oil.Is it tooo late to change my oil filter?
If you go to the trouble of changing the filter, I would replace the oil as well. I have seen guys change the filter every other time, but I would recommend that you change the filter each oil change and that the frequency be no more than 4000 miles - target is around 3000 miles. You could probably change the filter without changing the oil, but you will lose some (that is in the filter) and some out the port when you screw the filter off, so I would just bite the bullet and change it all.
yes you can put a new one on without drain the oil
I think that you can change the filter without draining the oil. The oil all sits at the bottom of the enigine in the pan. I think it would be fine to remove the filter and then add half a quart or so of oil.
To change the filter, you do not have to change the oil. You will lose about one quart in taking the filter off and putting the new one on. For goodness sakes, how many times are you going to ask this question before you wise up and take the vehicle to JiffyLube and get the filter changed?
Take it your local jiffy lube shop
jus change the filter, no problems going to happen...

you can use the same oil..if you drain it again.. but i dont think you shiould drain it again because it wuld just be more work... so just change the filter, no problems goin to hapen
Just change the filter, this time. When it's ready again, do it the right way, you'll save yourself time and money when you do things correctly.
It'll be okay. Better late than never. The dirty filter should not contaminate the new oil. But it might clog completely and starve the engine of oil. So change it if you can.
Since you've already put new oil in it and have not driven the vehicle you've got time to change the filter. It's OK to get nasty with it with a screw driver. I've had to resort to that many times. Do to over tightening the filter by some ';do da'; who's got 0 training. I really do feel your frustration. That's why I ALWAYS do my own oil changes.

Where is the oil filter on my '07 Ranger?

Unfamiliar with Ford and just wondering if it's easy to get to. Thanks!Where is the oil filter on my '07 Ranger?
my experiences with ford tell me nothing is easy to do on them. Ford does it so you have to bring it in. Now Im not saying you can't do it, It just won't be in a convinent place. Just crawl under the truck and look under the engine. You should see it somewhere down there.

When i start my engine, the oil filter gasket blows. 93 olds cutlass cruiser?

why would this happen? and i cant find the oil pump, does this car have one? and if so, where is it located? When i start my engine, the oil filter gasket blows. 93 olds cutlass cruiser?
I had a 91 Cutlass that had 78psi oil pressure in the lower end, when tested where the oil pressure sensor is near the oil filter. You most likely have a double gasket. When mine had high pressure on the low end, it had zero getting up top, due to high mileage and the timing gear was actually disintegrating and caused the lifters and pushrods to become clogged and prevent oil flow. If this was your case, you would be mentioning one hell of a racket coming from the heads. Remove your oil filter, and if it does not have a double gasket, try to shine a light up into the oil filter adaptor and make sure the center port and the half moon shaped ports are not clogged. Thsi can also cause the gasket to blow. When i start my engine, the oil filter gasket blows. 93 olds cutlass cruiser?
Is the old rubber gasket stuck to the base.

    (two gaskets by accident?)

    %26lt;------Done that.
Every car has an oil pump. Other wise the oil would not flow. You most likely cause for the blown filter gasket is 1 a double gasket, 2 wrong filter, 3 filter is not installed completely / correctly. What you need to do is remove the oil filter and physically check the filter plate on the engine for a gasket. use your hands not your eyes. if there is no gasket present, inspect the filter for damage, if the filter is ok, reinstall the filter and feel the mating surfaces of the filter and filter plate to see if they line up, normally these two surfaces will line up with little difference, if there is a difference then you most likely have the wrong filter. if there is a small gap then the filter in not tightening up properly. if you still have problems then it is likely the filter housing may be damaged. Also the 93 olds cutlass had 3 different options for motors. I would need a motor size to be able to tell you where the pump is located. however it is often very close to the filter housing.
    Ya what they said.
Make sure the oil gasket off the old oil filter didn't stick to the engine so that you ended up with two gaskets between the engine block and the new filter.
check and make sure the gasket off of the old oil filter isnt still stuck to the sealing surface on the block if it is you are stacking gaskets and they will naturally not seal properly. Oil pump is on the inside of the engine in the oil pan.
The oil pump is located inside the oil pan (sump), so you can't see it. I'd say you either have 2 oil filter gaskets on the car, or the oil pressure valve is stuck closed. Or possibly the internal oil galleries are clogged, causing an over-pressure situation.

    Good luck!

yes you can. DO it when the vehicle is cool or has sit for 20-30 minutes after running. That way the oil has time to drain down into the oil pan and you can switch the filter, without getting oil everywhere. Can i change the oil filter without draining the oil?
just replace the filter all you'll lose is the oil in the filter so just top it up no worries...just dont forget to check to make sure the rubber oring came off with the filter and that you lube the new oring going on.
you can just replace the filter by it self.
Yes you can do that. Just check the oil when your done.
try it..most filters r high up...youll lose some oil but most will stay in pan...do it cold after all oil has drained down

How often do I really need to change my oil filter???

everytime you change your oilHow often do I really need to change my oil filter???
every time you change your oil. 3000 miles 3 months
change it everytime you have your oil changed.

every three months or 5,000 kms which ever comes first

If you only change the oil and not the filter, your oil dirties up faster and harms your engine
Depends, every 3 months or so...sooner if you drive a lot.
you should change the filter everytime you change the oil 3,000 miles or 3 months
EVERY 3 MONTHS THE FILTER SHOULD BE CHANGED.............THE OIL SHOULD ALSO BE CHANGED EVERY 3 ALSO UNLESS IT IS SYNTHETIC OIL

Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter?

what should i do in winter? what cars can run biodiesel? do i need any modification (rubber lines, separate tank, infector and etc. ? finally, can old VW and mercedse benz run with biodiesel?

Thank you so much i very appreciate. Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter?
If they are diesel engines . Do not put bio-diesel into a gasoline engine as it will ruin it.Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter?
Any diesel engine will run on bio-diesel. The fuel filter will need to be changed after the first 1000-1500 miles of bio-diesel use. This is due to the fuel cleaning out the engine, and all the dirt being caught by the filter. Once this has been done, the filter should be changed every service (as normal).

What to do in winter depends upon the type of oil you are processing, and your global location. In the UK, for example, it is best to avoid palm oil alltogether, and to mix 50/50 diesel/bio-diesel over the colder months.

No modification is required for diesel engines to run on bio-diesel. You may, on older vehicles, need to change any natural rubber pipes/hoses/seals to synthetic rubber (this should have been done in the last 11 years anyway!) Modification is required, however, for neat vegetable oil- hence an element of confusion amongst some people.

Old VW and Mercs definitely run on Bio-diesel- a friend of mine runs his 8year old VW Golf on 80%, and Mercedes warranty their vehicles for bio-diesel in Switzerland.

    Hope all that helps.
I think you'll quickly discover that small automobile diesels are exceedingly finicky in the matter of fuel, and that the warranties on the fuel system are voided when you use anything but approved fuels, one of which is not home-made bio-diesel.

Apparently someone must be out there selling bio-diesel digester setups and telling everyone that they can run any car with the product. Bio-diesel is a more practical proposition for large diesels of the sort used for power generation, ship and large truck propulsion, and perhaps some aircraft and construction equipment.

What type of oil and oil filter does a 1996 Honda Accord take?

How do you change an oil filter in a 2003 Ford F-150?

It's in a tough spot. Above the front differential on the D/S. It has a plastic drain but you will still get some drain from both sides of the diff. It's not real messy but if you're on your back, leverage will be an issue. Turn the wheel slightly to the D/S before removal. It comes out from the bottom front.

How do i change my oil filter on my 1300 vtx honda (thats a cruiser just in case)?

so its my first bike and i just was wondering where the oil filter went and if i had to drain the oil like a car also what type of oil do you recommend to use , another concern is how to check the other fluids (e.i. transmission, brake, ect) if you know of a website where i can find a manual for my bike. again it is a 1300cc VTX retro by hondaHow do i change my oil filter on my 1300 vtx honda (thats a cruiser just in case)?
I'm surprised they didn't give you an owners manual when you bought the bike .If this bike is Brand New then I would recommend taking it in for its first 600 mile oil change, Cost is around 200 Bucks and they do it right and check every thing . Each time you take it in it gets cheaper plus its easier to keep records of whats been done when and where .Some guys like to do it themselves to save a buck /my manual says there are 2 oil drain bolts located on the right side underneath close to the muffler. engine oil filter is located just a few inches back , Check out VTX Owners Club on the web and Join, it cost nothing and lots of links to direct you in the right direction ,Ask a question and you will have 30 answers from 30 VTX owners that all know that we got the best and baddest Bike in town ( I have the 1800 and 1300 R)How do i change my oil filter on my 1300 vtx honda (thats a cruiser just in case)?

I left and brand new oil filter in the trunk of the car all those long hot summer would it still be ok to use?

Now would i need a new oil filter or would something be wrong with it since it was store in a very hot place.I know it is kind of a dumb question to ask,i was wondering if the heat from the sun under the trunk would have any effect as heat from the hot oil.I left and brand new oil filter in the trunk of the car all those long hot summer would it still be ok to use?
As long as it was in the box and didnt get full of grit, it's okayI left and brand new oil filter in the trunk of the car all those long hot summer would it still be ok to use?
NOPE! an oil filter sitting in a 120 degree trunk will still be as new as one sitting on a 120 degree shelf in a hot warehouse in Texas.

AFTER it gets installed then it has to live on the side of a 195 degree engine block with 195 degree oil running thru it.

    the filter will be fine.

How much Oil does an Oil Filter hold?

How much Oil does an Oil Filter hold? How much Oil does an Oil Filter hold?
usually the smaller ones hold about a half quart and the larger ones hold a quart. How much Oil does an Oil Filter hold?
Depending on the size, usually a quart or less. Check the owners manual for crankcase oil capacity. It may tell you the amount of oil required for an oil change with and without a new filter.
Depends on how big the filter is.... 1/2 to 3/4 qrt for most cars. Also depends if filter is mounted up or down. If its mounted down all the oil will be in the pan when the engine is off.
I would say an average filter holds about a half quart.
most dont hold much oil at all the question fo rme is why you need to know most cars hold four to six qts so add ofur and check crank and check again add if needed
Depends on its size generally half a pint or so? If your doing an oil change and want to know how much extra to add to compensate for the filter, dont... Fill until the oil is at the top of the dipstick, run engine for 2 mins, then switch off and check oil 1 hour later... Or fill oil filter then fit.... Good luck hope this helps
erm, probably about 350ml on average bearing in mind that they vary in size greatly.

Does anyone know where the oil filter and plug are located on a 1992 Mercedes SEL?

No I don't but I know on my 97 everyhwere I would take it for a oil change they couldn't find it. You might want to contact the dealership.

Do I need to drain all of my oil to change the oil filter on my car?

I have a Saturn SL2, if that helps.Do I need to drain all of my oil to change the oil filter on my car?
Yes you can change just the filter. Never mind all the people who tell you ';It will come gushing out'; . It will not come gushing out. You will ,however, loose the oil contained inside the filter and this much more must be replaced in the crank case.

Having said that, I was wondering why you would not wish to change the oil as well. It is very simple to do. The oil filter is the harder item to change on most cars (have not done a Saturn in a couple of years) There is a large pan bolted to the bottom of the engine which has a drain plug in it. Place a drain pan under that plug and remove plug letting oil out of engine. Replace plug and re-fill engine to correct level.

The oil will actually ';Wear out'; before the filter. You could safely do three oil changes to one filter change. It is uncommon to do this as most auto parts stores and repair shops just want to make a sale. They will try to tell you it is absolutely necessary to change both at the same time when in reality it is not. Changing the oil at suggested intervals is definitely needed. New oil filter every time is not.Do I need to drain all of my oil to change the oil filter on my car?
IM just gogin to explain to you that oil contained chemical additives that give it its unique visquous properties, these additives do the opposite of what liquids usually do, and become thicker at high temps and thinner at low temps, these additives make sure your oil is the correct viscosity for both starting engine temps and running engine temps. Over time, and use, the additives break down, and the oil no longer functions properly, the service life of these additives is not very long at all, and when it doesnt function, your oil does not lubricate properly. IN addition there are additives to absorb sulfur from the fuel, if it is not absorbed it will cause the presence of surlfuric acid in eqilibrium in your engine oil, suluric acid will eat though concrete, and will without question damage seals and other parts of your engine. The additives that abosrb sulfer are also consumed over time.

Now that you know why you need to replace your oil, you can remove your filter, allowing only 1/4- 1/2 of your engine oil to drain during replacing it, but its only another 6 bucks to replace all of the oil, so just fork it over and replace it, because not changing your oil will hurt your engine a lot.
Yes. That's why it's called an ';Oil Change';.

If you just want to change the filter alone, it's possible. As long as the motor is off, the filter is mounted above the oil pan and usually holds about a quart of oil inside. Once you put the new filter on, you need to recheck and top off the oil as needed.

It is a good idea to change the oil and filter at the same time. Just changing the filter alone does not protect your engine.
For whatever reason you only want to change the oil filter. Here's how.. do not open the engine oil cap and quickly screw in the new oil filter. If you release the engine oil cap the oil will come gushing out. Then top up oil as required. Alternatively you can turn the car upside down and change the oil filter at your leisure.
    yes and no.

no because physically to change the filter only uses 1 quart or so of oil.

yes because you need to change the oil when you change the filter to protect your cars motor.
You should ALWAYS change the oil whenever you change the filter, and vice-versa, you should always change the filter every time you change the oil.
no.when you take your oil filter off and replace it with a new one you need to add 1 quart of oil.my q is why would you replace only the oil filter and not give your car a oil change?
aside from drain all the oil you must replace your oil filter
yup. if you don't drain it, once the filter is removed it will all come out anyway. it is best to change oil and filter at the same time.

THIS IS ALL PREVENTIVE MAINTAIN CE. AND NINE IN TEN TIMES IT IS DEALER RECOMMENDED.How long for the oil filter change?
Change the filter the same time you change your oil. Also it would be good if you put oil in the filter by a funnel and soak the filter element. This helps lower the dry start time and lowers engine wear. Hand tighten your filter as much as it will go, there is no need for tools to tighten. Also dispose your oil responsibly as it is hazardous waste. Most auto parts stores and recycling facilities accept used motor oil.

    Good Luck....
u can keep ur oil filter for about 6,000 mile if u ar using a full synthetic motor oil, this mean u change oil without the filter at first time and next time with the filter.

i have been doing this with my car for 6 years, and the engine is still running perfectly.

but if u ar using a normal mineral oil,i strongly recommend that u change the filter every time oil changed.
you could ask the people who change your oil but i usually do the oil change myself save 10 time more
the filter should be changed every 3000 miles...so every oil change...the filter should be changed as well. Remember the filter is just as important as the oil is, if the same filter is left on and only the oil is changed then how does the filter collect debris if it is basically depleted? It cannot which can contaminate your oil and or ruin your engine.
change teh filter when you change the oil, its the best practice. the filter gets gummed up with the oils crud so if the oil is bad, the filter is too
Same as the oil. If you don't change the filter at the same time you change the oil you are mixing the dirty/old oil that is in the filter with the new oil.
should change with the oil everytime
Everytime you have oil change, where ever you go .Those people suppose to change your filter too. Then an inspections would be okay.
Same as the oil, every 3-5 thousand depending on the car.

Every time you change the oil, change filter and your good to go.

It is right in the front underneath a cover, It is most likely near the center. Just take off the cover and you will see it, unscrew it, fill it up with fresh oil, make sure the old seal came off the engine, screw it on, put back the cover, then fill up the oil in the car, let it run, check the oil on the dipstick, add oil if needed and your good.
I understand that it takes some special tools for this baby. Don't know if it is true, some friends tried to get theirs done at some place other then the dealer. No one would touch it except the dealer.

Another reason GM is the dead beat of America.
On the top side of the engine, driver side, under a black plastic cover. You will have to unscrew the cover to get to the filter.

The 2007 model uses the same style filter that chrysler has been using for almost 15 years now. The only difference is if you have the V6 then it is a longer skinnier filter, but the thread and the gasket area is all the same. You should go back to walmart and try again. If you can't find the right one try going back a year or look it up for a Grand cherokee of the same year or older with the same engine.

Good oil filters can put a lot more miles on your vehicle.
look it up on kragen for the size. When they say they use mopar, they mean that the dealer uses mopar parts for all Jeep, dodge, and chrysler vehicles. It's perfectly ok to use other brands, but it's recommended to use mopar. I tend to use AC Delco. Anything but Fram. Stay away from FRAM!

What kind of oil and oil filter does a 1971 porsche 914 gt use?

10w 30 or 5w 30 or what? What kind of oil and oil filter does a 1971 porsche 914 gt use?
The older air-cooled models do best with either synthetic or heavy duty cycle oils. Synthetic can often be problematic in older engines, as the synthetic oil molecules are smaller and prone to exposing seal gaps that would be too small for regular oil to seep through... for this reason, I would only look at synthetic if you are already successfully running it, or the engine has been recently rebuilt.

If synthetic, Royal Purple or Redline are likely the best choices. Mobile 1 remains a solid choice that's readily available, but recent changes in it's formula make it less than ideal for long duty cycles in an air cooled engine (and this is also the case with many of the synthetics on the market now, the two mentioned above being notable exceptions).

On the heavy duty cycle side, I would consider Swepco 306 to be among the best. Shell Rotella (15W40 or 20W50 being the heavy duty cycle offerings) was the OEM oil for Porsche for many of these engines, and it remains a good and economical option.

As for weights, you will generally run a little heavier in an air cooled car, though if you are in an especially cold climate you may need to use something much lighter... otherwise, look at the 15W40 and 20W50 as I mentioned above in conventional oils (10W30 for very light, and avoid 10W40 as this is too much of a range for a multi-viscosity that is that light).

As for the oil filter, the OEM is most likely Mahle (as this is the case for almost all air-cooled Porsches; check any Porsche parts specialist like Pelicanparts.com). This should offer good protection and will be less costly than other premium filters that you may find. What kind of oil and oil filter does a 1971 porsche 914 gt use?
    10w-40 semi synthetic I reckon. For a firmer grasp on oils and properties, there's lots of useful information here;

  • Where exactly the automatic Transmission oil filter in my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS?

The Transmission got oil pan on the side toward the engine fan not at the bottom like any other auto transmission.Where exactly the automatic Transmission oil filter in my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS?
Your vehicle actually has 2 trans filters. One is inside the pan which is mounted vertically. The other is a spin on type filter that is located on top of the trans case. The set up of your trans pan is not unusual, several other foreign cars (i.e. Mitsubishi) have this.Where exactly the automatic Transmission oil filter in my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS?
Your transmission filter is a long life filter and is located between the transmission case and the converter housing. It is a very involved process to have to get that filter out. The car does not have a bottom oil pan for the tranny. It may be accessible through the valve body pan on the side but I am not 100% sure about that last part.

Only some Elantras have the 2 filter set up. in Canada they were from 00-01 model years. After that it was deleted from production.
well that will be a first for me... oil pan most are on the bottom of the transmisson so if you have a pan on the side winders how it holds oil but i guess that it... all the ones ive seen and removed have been about a foot square and on the bottom
the filter for most automatic transmissions is in the transmission oilpan, which is located on the bottom of the transmission.

Use a 30 weight oil and a fram filter # PH2 That is your best bet. and change it every 3,000 miles.
10w30 oil and a ford explorer oil filter(which fits other models) but i dont know the code for it.
Your owner manual should have said info ASchucks should have info too..depends on where live how much driving/ on road or off/ regular oil or synthetic the later i recommend lasts longer about every 5000 miles before a refill and change oil and filter...usaully there a book in stores saying what oil filter, air filter to use for what model etc. if live some where hot ask about additves to protect oil like restore...or mystrey oil? (red and black) label.
Good for you! I have a video on YouTube and my homesite you may find helpful.

The specifications for oil are in your owner's manual...Some Ford's use a 5w20 but I don't recall right off if it went as far back as 1998. It IS important to use the right weight on today's engines, so take the time to look it up.

Any brand name filter should do just fine...Fram comes to mind.
if you want a motorcraft filter it is either an FL1A or 820S.I use Valvoline 5 w 30 in my 99 expl.110K with no leaks or other problems.also use castrol 5w30 in my 95 neon.230k and no leaks and does not burn oil.change your oil every 3000 to 3500 miles.
If you want to use a high-quality, extended drain synthetic, check out Amsoil. Their EaO11 oil filter and synthetic oil will let you go to once a year oil changes. Got this info at my website: http://www.number1synthetic.com

I am trying to change the oil %26amp; filter on my 1998 Citroen Xsara 5 Door Saloon 16v 1800.

I have changed many a oil %26amp; filters myself over the years of DIY vehicle servicing but this one has got me scratching my head for suitable filter access.

Removal of the Radiator, or Injection Inlet manifold seems to be a bit drastic? access from below appears to be impossible. How Do I Access The Oil Filter (to Change) Citroen Xsara 5 Door?
A good maintenance manual will tell you how the design engineers planned to change the oil, and it won't require a major parts removal. In the mean time, unscrew the oil filter and leave it in the immediate engine area. Install the new filter and your done. How Do I Access The Oil Filter (to Change) Citroen Xsara 5 Door?
