Very important question about oil filter on cars?

My buddy is changing his oil on his 05 acura tsx. He swears up and down that all you need to do is hand tighten the oil filter and it will be fine. Now I have always used the oil filter tool to tighten it to specs. (Hand tighten then tighten it 3/4 way if i remember correctly) Question is, will it be alright if he just always uses his hand to tighten the filter on and that's it.Very important question about oil filter on cars?
Yeah it'll be fine as long as he's putting a strong hand on it. Also keep in mind that when the car heats up, everything expands. This will make it even tighter.Very important question about oil filter on cars?
He's right, on small automotive engines there is no reason to tighten the filter with a wrench. Just lubricate the rubber seal with clean oil and tighten it by hand till the seal touches, then the 3/4 turn, also by hand.
On a basic screw on type cartridge the answer is YES. On a permanent filter housing, like in a Saturn , you will need a wrench.
Hand tighten then 3/4 of a turn is correct. But the 3/4 of a turn should be done by hand
Yes, your friend is correct! Hand tighten it, it will be fine.
