How often should we change the oil filter on a 2001 GMC Jimmy?

How often should we change the oil filter on a 2001 GMC Jimmy? I don't believe you change the filter EVERY time you change the oil, and we're using Castrol Syntec ...the really expensive good synthetic stuff.
