Every oil change, i seem to switch back and forth between fram and purolator. i hear they both are ';garbage'; but they do the job, so i just want to see what other people think is the best out there?What is the best oil filter for a high mileage jeep 4.0 engine?
I don't believe that there is a best one. I believe that even if you used a noname - generic filter - that the most important part of the ';picture'; is that you change it and the oil at regular intervals. Period!!!What is the best oil filter for a high mileage jeep 4.0 engine?
A fresh one.
I use the frams myself. I am not sure what any tests show on them but I have never had a problem and may oil seems to stay pretty clean. ';If it aint broke dont fix it!';
Fram or Baldwin.
I suggest the factory recommended filter or equivalent ,i e Fram or Wix . Mileage has little to do with filter choice.
Yah, the frams- unless you happen to have a NAPA nearby( or Car-Quest)- I found that with MY high mileage Bronco( just under 200K, and rollin' strong) switching from the fram X-tra duty for trucks, to NAPA gold, the oil would stay clean until it was time to change it, where with the fram, the oil would be dirty in 1000 miles.Purolators are slightly cheaper, $-wise, and the oil got dirty BEFORE 1000 miles, so I quit using them-You can also, if your engine uses the small filter, switch to the 1-quart model, just go to ANY parts store, and ask them to pull out their filter book(NAPA and Car-Quest will be happy to help, here.) and look up your filter's seal and thread size, then find the bigger one that has those same dimensions, write that model # down, and you're good to go! P.S. Car Quest has good filters, too!
