My sons car is leaking oil bad from the oil filter. He lives about four miles from a shop. Can he drive it there? How far can a car be driven with a leaking oil filter?
I wouldn't risk it, just buy a new filter and take the old one off and make sure there isn't a rubber gasket stuck to the mounting surface on the engine and screw the new filter on hand tight. How far can a car be driven with a leaking oil filter?
How long can you hold a lit cherry bomb?
Here's what you do: Loosen the filter and put the gaket back in place, then put it on right and tighten it so it doesn't leak. Refill the oil. Run the engine to make sure there isn't any leaking. Clean up the oil so none gets on the hot exhaust parts.Drive like normal.
There is a lot of pressure at the ol filter and oil will be pumped out of a leak so fast you won't believe it.
If he makes sure the oil level is good and checks it along the way he should be OK.
oil filters are cheap to replace and usualy a leak is simply the gasket ring is crimped so why chance a problem get it replaced, may even try turning it on could be loose
I wouldn't. He'll definitely throw a rod and ruin the engine forever.
