never had one...but seen one. was a rental car that came into the shop for blown motor because oil filter never changed...but they changed the oil... surprisingly it made to almost 50,000 on the factory filter.





have seen many where the rubber o ring didn't seal from dirt or improper installation that caused a leak...Have you ever had an Oil Filter on your car fail under regular driving conditions?
yes i have a long time ago,i had one on a 283 Chevy engine fail,and lost all oil pressure,it almost cost me an engine,luckily i seen the oil hand drop on it,and cut it off,its pretty rare when one fails but it can happen,with today's newer filters they are supposed to be designed so that they cant fail but i wouldn't bet on anything that's made by a machine,it can happen,these days anythings possible,good luck with it.
Only on a boat, lack of maintenance and it rusted through. Other than that no.
printscr If the oil filter is a budget or a cheapie it won't last very long.I use fram or wix or even ac delco any one of these 3 will fit most cars and trucks and other vehicles too.
I have seen an oil filter fail on three different occasions. All three times it was a Fram filter that failed. Two times the steel casing sprung a leak after being ran for less than 1000 miles. A friend of mine put a brand new engine in his truck and was about to take it back out and return it because it was losing oil. Turned out to be the oil filter leaking so he was happy he didn't need another new engine. The third time I seen a filter fail the actual paper filter media came apart and got pumped through the engine. That caused some serious damage to the oil pump and I am sure it didn't do the engine itself any good. So it is always a good idea to spend the money on a quality filter like a baldwin or an OEM filter.
Yes, my oil filter is the one thing that always gets changed when i get my car serviced. It in turn put major pressure on my fuel filter an killed it. Using a fuel with less ethanol and keeping an eye on your fuel filter seems to help (my car is a '92 model corolla). You can usually tell when the filter is getting due for a change coz the engines idle starts to get rough.
