it is a paper filter its located by the intake on the drivers side you may have to remove a plastic engine cover it pulls off you need a special socket auto zone should have one unscrew the oil filter cover pull old filter out of cover install new filter in cover screw back in really simpleWhere is the oil filter located on a 08 Chevy Cobalt LT %26amp; How do you replace it ?
It is right in the front underneath a cover, It is most likely near the center. Just take off the cover and you will see it, unscrew it, fill it up with fresh oil, make sure the old seal came off the engine, screw it on, put back the cover, then fill up the oil in the car, let it run, check the oil on the dipstick, add oil if needed and your good.
I understand that it takes some special tools for this baby. Don't know if it is true, some friends tried to get theirs done at some place other then the dealer. No one would touch it except the dealer.

Another reason GM is the dead beat of America.
On the top side of the engine, driver side, under a black plastic cover. You will have to unscrew the cover to get to the filter.

It doesn't state the year. Evidently, they are placed in a weird location.
